Cartagena de Indias.- The 6th Summit of the Americas and the alternative People's Summit to be held at the same time in this city will deal with drugs, a topic that is gaining ground for discussion. During the 6th Summit of the Americas, attended by heads of State and Government on Saturday and Sunday, the host President, Juan Manuel Santos, will urge to discuss the subject in order to evaluate what is being done to fight this scourge and to look for "less costly and more effective" alternatives. "We have to rest political sensitivity from the discussion on the fight against drugs", said Santos regarding the debate to be held this week in Cartagena de Indias.

According to Santos, it is necessary to discuss different scenarios in order to find better alternatives and try to find a suitable combination of proposals that are acceptable to all countries.

Drugs will be a topic of discussion at the 6th Summit of the Americas, but it will not be included in its final declaration.

On the other hand, the alternative and independent People's Summit, to be held from April 12 to 14, will also debate the drug issue, the organizing committee told Prensa Latina.
