HAVANA. -The latest edition of the Cuban Yellow Pages includes, among its novelties, a segment dedicated to promoting the services of self-employed persons, official sources said today in Havana.

Patricia Soler Silva, specialist at the Cuban Telecommunications Company (ETECSA by its Spanish acronym), said in a news conference that more than 500 self-employed people rented advertising space in the new section.

The circulation of nearly a million copies started throughout the island, this time in four variants, depending on the region where it is distributed: Havana, West, Central and East.

Soler Silva, head of the Phonebook group, recalled that in December 2011, ETECSA made the announcement that this sector would be able to insert its promotions, in a particularly section dedicated to them in the Yellow Pages telephone directory.

At that moment ETECSA explained them that they had an option of two forms of contract: registration and sale of advertising space, and that they would be charged in CUC (Cuban convertible pesos).

The first of these methods is to display the basic information and ways to contact the person offering its services and the second is the inclusion of promotions with more data and visual impact.

Soler Silva noted that the registration fee is 10.00 CUC, and advertising varies according to the contracted space and complexity.

The concerns of people on why charging for this service is in convertible currency, the specialist said it was necessary to offset the costs of making a circulation as large and to be able to distribute it for free to the residential and commercial sectors.

Those wishing to request the service for later editions and more details about the process, can access this information by dialing 118, she said.
