HAVANA, Cuba.- UN, Secretary General Ban Ki-moon sent on Tuesday his condolences to the people and government of Venezuela, after knowing about the decease of President Hugo Chavez.
This is the first news I have and although I’ll make an official statement later I would like to send my heartfelt condolences to the family of President Chavez, as well as to the people and government of Venezuela, Ban told the press at the UN headquarters, the Telesur television network reported.
On Tuesday afternoon, Venezuelan Executive Vice-president Nicolás Maduro gave the world the news about the death of Chavez.
In statements to the nation, he called his people to unity and expressed his eternal gratitude in acknowledgement to the leader that carried out projects of life for his country and for the peoples of the Americas.
By way of Telesur, personalities of politics and other social spheres from several regions of the world have expressed their condolences for the death of Chavez and their support for the Bolivarian people in this difficult time.
