Camagüey, -Camagüey took advantage of March – when the largest amount of sugar is produced nationwide - and reached the second place among 13 provinces engaged in the production of this item that sells for 23 or 30 cents per pound in the international market.
Agricultural suppliers and producers of four mills in Cuba’s largest province, agree that April will be decisive to meet the technical-economic plan and manufacture 10,000 or more additional tonnes.
“Batalla de las Guásimas” - the first sugar mill built after the Revolution – is the leader of all cane processing factories in this province, and occupies the 9th place in the island nation among 46 mills operating in the current harvest.
The four sugar mills in operation not only covered their energy demands, but also provided 9 228.9 Megawatts/hour to the National Power Grid. For its part, Argentina sugar cane refinery, in the municipality of Florida, processed 17,601 metric tonnes of white sugar without burning oil, but biomass (bagasse).
Other sugar cane mills which excel for the quality of their product are Siboney, Sibanicú, and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes.
