Camagüey. – The Polish Embassy in Cuba donated biographical panels on the life and work of Maria Curie to Camagüey Cancer Hospital named after this Polish scientist.
Carlos J. Finlay’s birthplace will house the exhibit as part of the activities underway in this Cuban province to observe World Cancer Day, to be held next February 4th.
Marie Curie made significant contributions to the field of nuclear physics with her work regarding radioactivity and cancer treatment.
During the exhibit’s soft opening, Doctor Oscar Lasserra Sánchez spoke at length about the prevention, treatment methods and cancer rates, a topic that brought about a prolific debate among experts coming from various municipalities of Camagüey.
Besides, in Carlos J. Finlay’s birth house there is an exhibition on bibliographic details including both roles and tasks of the cancer control coordinator in different health areas, to which the population can go for their checkups.
Some of the titles we can find are: Técnica para la toma de muestra de citología orgánica (Technique for taking cytology samples); Cuidados paliativos en pacientes con cáncer avanzado: 120 preguntas y respuestas (Palliative cares in advanced cancer patients: 120 questions and answers); Programa Integral para el control del cáncer en Cuba (Comprehensive Cancer Control Program in Cuba), as well as contents of the 2011-2012 National Diplomate on cancer control in digital format.
