HAVANA, Cuba,  (acn) Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodriguez advocated in New York the
release of the five Cuban antiterrorists incarcerated in the United States since 1998, and argued why “they should be free.”

In a press conference, Silvio pointed out that The Five are suffering sentences that are
completely ridiculous, with irregularities in their proceedings, since it was a trial with
great political influence, the Prensa Latina news agency reports on Wednesday.

The popular troubadour tackled the issue while preparing his concert-debut slated for New
York’s Carnegie Hall on Friday, the tickets of which rapidly sold out a few days ago.
While referring to the US policy towards Cuba, he expressed that it would be very important

if Washington lifted the economic, commercial y financial blockade imposed on the island for
almost 50 years now.

The author of “La era está pariendo un corazón” affirmed that the permanent dialogue
between his music and the new generations is probably due to the fact that he has maintained
the same mental attitude he had when he was young, with respect to creation, music, poetry and
communication with others.

On Sunday, Silvio offered a concert in Puerto Rico, which was attended by some 10,000
people, a presentation that was part of his current international tour that will take him to
several US cities.

During that concert, he read fragments of a letter written two years ago by US actor Danny
Glover, in which the latter expressed his solidarity with the five Cuban antiterrorists
unfairly imprisoned in the US.

Silvio especially dedicated the piece “Escaramujo” to the Puerto Rican students now on
strike against the anti-popular measures of the colonial government, preceded by a
commentary: "Education is not a business; to you, who’re making sacrifices, goes this song."
