HAVANA, Cuba, (acn) Olga Salanueva and Adriana Perez, the wives of two of the Cuban antiterrorists unfairly incarcerated in the United States since 1998, met with top officials from the UN Human Rights Council (HRC).
The wives of Rene Gonzalez and Gerardo Hernandez, respectively, are now in Geneva, Switzerland, to continue their denunciations of the unjust imprisonment these two patriots are suffering, along with Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez, their fellow antiterrorism fighters.
On the occasion of session 13 of the Council, they spoke with the director for the Americas from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Maria Clara Martin, and with El Hadji Malick, Chairperson-Rapporteur of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, the antiterroristas.cu web site reports. Likewise, they spoke with Manfred Nowak, Special Rapporteur on Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment; and Dragana Korlgan, assistant to the Rapporteur on the right of all people to enjoy the highest level of physical and mental health possible. In addition, they met with Pasipau Chirwa, assistant to the Special Rapporteur on the independence of Judges and Lawyers within the HRC. In all of the meetings, they focused on the repeated and prolonged denial of entry visas on the part of the US government, a situation that prevents them from visiting their husbands, which was denounced by Cuba before the Council. |
