Canberra.- The Cuban motion picture El Benny, directed by Jorge Luis Sanchez, was highly acclaimed in this capital, where it was screened at the 8th Latin American Film Festival of Australia, along with other outstanding South American movies.
Mexico.- Cuba´s.- Sine Nomine won the Jalisco Canta 3rd International Coral Festival of Vocal Ensembles held in Diana Theater in Guadalajara, with Mexican Ars Viva of Monterrey; and Stacatto of the Federal District as second and third winners.
Havana.- Singers and composers of rural music will entertain at the International Cubadisco 2012 Fair with songs at a contest of repentismo or improvisation, that is to compose, play, recite,or sing verses on the spur of the moment.
The 2012 edition of the Havana Biennial will be held in May under the slogan “Artistic practices and social imaginary”. Organized by the Wifredo Lam Contemporary Arts Center, the biennial will bring artists from Latin America, Africa, Asia and other parts of the world.
Havana.- Artists from 40 countries are expected to gather on May 21-24 for the 16th International Poetry Festival of Havana, dedicated to Afro-Caribbean poets and to the 100th birthday anniversary of Cuban playwright Virgilio Pinera (1912-1979.)
Havana.- The first work of the Argentinean Maria Laura Casabe, The Good Fairy, won the award for Best Feature Film of the X International Low-Budget Film Festival, held in the eastern Cuban city of Gibara.
